Animals:
  • Aren't partisan
  • Can't speak
  • Don't vote

Julie Lewin, the author of Get Political for Animals and Win the Laws They Need, asks us to ponder:

Q  What is a lawmaker's primary concern?

To be re-elected.

Q  How is a lawmaker re-elected?

By wininng a majority of votes cast by his/her constituents.

Q  Aren't the merits of a bill important in determining whether my lawmaker votes for or against?

No way!  The most important factor in your lawmaker's decision to vote for or against a substantive proposal is whether it could lose or gain him votes on Election Day.
